Bridgeview PACE Station
Deft design converted two modular telecom units into a distinctive brick and glass pavilion located in the parking lot of SeatGeek Stadium (formerly Toyota Park) in the Chicago suburb of Bridgeview. The new PACE station serves as the stadium’s bus depot, providing shelter, seating, and toilet facilities for waiting passengers.
Steel columns and masonry piers support a simple shed-roofed polycarbonate box that acts as a beacon for the facility. Cantilevered on all sides, this distinctive form seems to float above the ground, an effect that becomes more dramatic in the evening when white lighting on the ceiling and red lighting on its vertical surfaces create an ethereal illuminated sheltered space. The remarkable transformation and the project’s diminutive scale demonstrate that thoughtful design can make much from little.
