Ann Rainey Apartments
A white concrete panelized system accented with brightly colored metal trim defines the four-story-tall Ann Rainey Apartments senior living facility in Evanston. UrbanWorks’ lively articulated design provides a unique pairing of affordable housing and support services in a single location. Every detail embraces the client’s mission “to enhance quality of life and facilitate independence of older adults.”
Located near the prominent corner of Howard Street and Ridge Boulevard, the building provides 54 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom independent living apartments for seniors age 62 or older, with incomes at or below 60 percent of the area median. The ground level houses residential support services, a community room, and parking. Social activity and fitness rooms face the sidewalk, providing a strong connection between the resident’s daily activities with the neighborhood. The three floors above provide a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments. A resident lounge space on each floor encourages resident interactions while proving expansive views to the street. The community connects to an existing Adult Day Services Center providing opportunities for shared programming and socialization for both groups of seniors.
