David D. Ellis, AIA
Senior Planner / Project Architect
David Ellis brings over twenty years of experience to UrbanWorks where he serves as Senior Planner/Project Architect. Prior to joining UrbanWorks, he has worked in a variety of roles in the industry, including architecture, urban planning, marketing, and teaching at the university level. With a passion for daylighting in architecture, his design work has included large and small-scale residential projects, city and campus planning, medical buildings, theaters, office, and commercial spaces across the globe. His work has appeared in numerous publications.
With an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and graduate degrees in Architecture and Urban Planning from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, David has taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and The Boston Architectural College. He has also taught at The China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China, and is currently co-teaching a multidisciplinary course in architecture and theoretical physics at Antwerpen University in Belgium.
Outside the office, David enjoys studying the French language and cooking, foreign films, and reading classic literature. He also has a healthy obsession with dogs.
