The Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) has named UrbanWorks’ John Hancock College Preparatory High School as the 2022 Project of the Year. The new school is one of only eleven selective enrollment high schools in Chicago and is the only one in a predominantly Latino neighborhood. Located just three blocks from Chicago’s Midway Airport, the new Hancock High School’s memorable window and glazing patterns represent the low and high frequency sound waves that reverberate throughout the community from planes overhead and student activity within the school. The design concept of “uplift” fosters student ambition and achievementbased on this local context.
